Notre Dame buildings evacuated because of smoke

SOUTH BEND, IN University spokesman Dennis Brown says the student center, two dormitories and several classroom buildings were evacuated Friday morning. He says there are no reports of injuries.

Heavy smoke was reported in the area, but Brown says no flames are visible. Fire crews are on the scene.

Classes at Notre Dame began Tuesday.
