Manhunt underway for carjacking suspect

WALLER COUNTY, TX Deputies are searching for the shooter in an area around Hempstead bordered by Highway 290, Highway 6 and FM1488.

Deputies say the man pulled off two carjackings near Highway 290 and FM1488 Thursday night between 8:15 and 8:30. The carjacker wounded two men and after the second carjacking, he ran into some woods.

"The individual, after the shots were fired, got back into the vehicle that he originally stole, came out on a road of Mack Washington in the area, just off of Highway 290 here in Hempstead," said Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith. "A deputy sheriff from Waller County was pursuing him after spotting the vehicle. He ran it over towards an embankment of a creek, stopped and ran and entered into the woods at that time."

The manhunt continues by air and on the ground with tracking dogs. The Waller County Sheriff's department, the Hempstead Police department and the Texas Department of Corrections is also involved in the search. They are using their tracking dogs as well.

Authorities said they found a bloody shirt and some tracks by the creek. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

As for the victims, one was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital with three gunshot wounds in serious condition. The other suffered one gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Trinity Hospital.
