Galveston to get green makeover

GALVESTON, TX A $3 million plan is in the works to re-plant Broadway with large, live oaks. Dozens of trees planted after the 1900 storm were destroyed during Hurricane Ike. The island's tree committee hopes to re-plant trees as tall as 20 feet.

City crews will likely start removing the dead trees next month, but new trees cannot be planted until November because of the heat and drought conditions.
