Police search for driver in deadly hit and run

HOUSTON Shortly after 6am Wednesday, an HPD officer traveling southbound on the Eastex Freeway heard several calls about a black female darting in and out of traffic in the 14,200 block near Lee Road. Once he got to that at that location, he says he parked his vehicle, approached the woman and led her back to his patrol car.

As soon as they reached the patrol car, the woman bolted from his grasp.

Investigators say she ran across the lanes of traffic, jumped the HOV lane barriers and entered the northbound traffic lanes. Everyone but one driver was able to avoid hitting her.

Investigators say the driver of a white 1999-2004 Ford F350 Super Duty pickup hit the woman and kept going, apparently not trying to avoid her at all. She died at the scene.

Investigators are asking anyone with knowledge about this incident or the identity of the driver of the white pickup truck to call Crime Stoppers as soon as possible. There is no description of the driver.

The victim is identified simply as a black female, approximately 25 years old. There is no current information on her identity.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information called in to the 713-222-8477 tips hotline or submitted online at www.crime-stoppers.org that leads to the identification, arrest and charging of any suspect in this case. All tipsters remain anonymous.
