Mother of NFL legend Earl Campbell dies

She was 85.

Edith Moore, a spokeswoman with Community Funeral Home of Tyler, told The Associated Press that Ann Campbell died Monday in hospice care.

Moore says Ann Campbell had been ill. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Funeral arrangements were pending.

Ann Campbell's husband, B.C. Campbell, died of a heart attack when their son was 11.

Earl Campbell, 54, a University of Texas standout who played for the NFL's Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints, is a businessman in Austin.

Ann Campbell was known to have displayed her son's trophy at her home. He was the sixth of the couple's 11 children.
