Record amount collected during amnesty period

HOUSTON During the amnesty period, which spanned from July 6 until July 24, the DA's office collected nearly $300,000 in fees and restitution according to Harris County DA Pat Lykos. That money will be distributed to the alleged hot check victims.

More than 400 people suspected of writing hot checks avoided arrest by making good on the amounts they owed. Since amnesty period ended, the hot check warrant roundup resulted in 28 arrests.
