New vaccination rules to go into effect

HOUSTON As of August 1, the state begins a new vaccination schedule, including new shots for incoming kindergartners and incoming 7th graders.

This fall, new 7th graders will need to show proof of five separate shots, including one for chicken pox, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis or whooping cough and meningitis.

Pediatricians are recommending parents start making appointments to have their children vaccinated now, since doctors' offices will be crowded later.
