Car slams into home, killing two

HOUSTON It happened this morning in a subdivision behind Almeda Mall. According to police, a 49-year-old man who had just gotten his driver's license plowed into the garage of the home, pinning his wife, his mother-in-law, and a 6-year-old nephew.

"He was pulling into the driveway. The passenger in the car told him to go ahead and put on his brake," said Jodi Silva with the Houston Police Department. "At that time, he got the brake and the accelerator confused and he drove into the garage."

The man who lives in the home, a Houston police officer, came out and performed CPR on the women, but both died from their injuries.

The women who were killed, ages 66 and 41, had been cooking a meal in the two-car garage at the time. The child who was also pinned by the car suffered non life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he's listed as stable, with two collapsed lungs and a damaged spleen.

The driver of the car is being interviewed by police. We're told the passenger in the car with him was his father-in-law.

At this time, no identities have been released and no charges have been filed.
