Summer vacation nearly ruined by carjackers

HOUSTON The families were held up outside a home on Crosshaven and Kirkaldy while getting ready for the trip. But the thieves didn't get far, thanks to a deputy who happened to be at the right place at the right time.

It all started around 11pm Wednesday. Three couples were preparing an RV for a trip out of town when they noticed that a group of men kept circling around them.

"They pulled by here a couple of times, back and forth, but we really didn't notice it," said robbery victim Danny Moore. "They then pulled the truck around the back and then they ran up and robbed us at gunpoint, basically the three of them. They took off and stole the rental car."

As the 911 call was coming in, a deputy in the area spotted the rental car with three suspects inside. They led police on a chase and the suspects ended up crashing.

All three of those suspects were taken into custody. A fourth suspect got away in another vehicle.

The families didn't want to let the robbery ruin their plans and took off on their vacation anyway.
