Gunmen storm Game Stop in Sugar Land

SUGAR LAND, TX [RAW VIDEO: Watch the surveillance video from the robbery]

The robbery happened last Thursday night at the store on Highway 6 just south of Highway 90. Ten minutes before closing, two men walked into the store. One pointed a rifle at the clerk.

They walked around the counter and within minutes, they were on the run with $1,000 in cash and five X-Boxes and Play Stations.

"We've had a handful of game store robberies in Sugar Land," said Sgt. Matt Levan wit the Sugar Land Police Department.

Sgt. Levan says crooks can easily resell game systems on websites, like eBay and Craigslist. At $300 a pop, it's quick cash and tough to trace back."

"A lot of times, unfortunately, they don't keep track of serial numbers, model numbers, especially with games," he said. "So it's something that's not traceable."

These thieves carried the systems right out of the store. But they're not the only ones. Several Game Stop stores nationwide have been hit so far this year, including stores in Ohio, New Mexico, California, New Jersey and Florida.

Gamer Matthew Johnson isn't surprised to hear thieves would be after gaming systems. After all, to the clever techie, the systems are much more than what they seem.

"You can rent movies on them. You can download games to it. You can also stream media and it'd be like a home theater system," he said.

These thieves are still on the loose. Police say they're armed and dangerous. Sugar Land police are working with other agencies to see if the men are linked to other area robberies.

Anyone with information should call SLPD at (281) 275-2540 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at (281) 342-TIPS (8477).
