With the mid-day heat bearing down on him, Reynolds started his evening shift at the park. Around 3pm, his white truck was unloaded and a co-worker had just filled him in on what to do.
"I just got through talking to him. I said, 'All you gotta do is cut this strip and a little spot behind the concession stand,'" said the co-worker.
About an hour after he began mowing the grass, Reynolds was found on the ground unconscious. CPR by emergency personnel could not revive him.
"The lawnmower was off and he was just laying on the ground," said Sgt. Mark Anderson of the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "EMS was called and he didn't have any pulse and they pronounced him deceased."
The Medical Examiner's Office is now investigating and preliminary reports say the heat was only one of several factors.
With an autopsy still pending, Reynolds' wife told us that besides dealing with the heat Monday afternoon, her husband also had high blood pressure and had battled weight gain in recent years.
Reynolds, a 25-year veteran of Precinct 1, leaves behind a wife and two children.
