Man wanted for murder eludes police

HOUSTON The SWAT standoff unfolded at a home on Chatwood near Mesa when police noticed a vehicle belonging to Francisco Odilon Lopez, 45, at around 4am Monday. The officers also saw movement in the house and a porch and an inside light turn off.

Homicide investigators attempted to serve a warrant, but received no answer at the door. Units from HPD's SWAT and hostage negotiation teams were called to the scene, but were unable to talk to anyone inside the house.

SWAT officers entered the residence shortly after 6am, but found no one inside.

Back on June 18, Lopez was at the home of Aberlardo Villarea, 37, when police say an argument broke out and Lopez pulled out a pistol and began shooting. Villareal was struck several times and killed. The victim's brother, Carlos Villareal, was also struck several time and was transported to Ben Taub Hospital.

Lopez is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is 5'6" tall and weighs 185 pounds and has brown hair and eyes. Anyone with information on Francisco Lopez's whereabouts is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
