SWAT standoff ends with woman in custody

HOUSTON It happened last night at a home on Marconi near West Pierce. According to investigators, the suspect, Diane Freeman, took her uncle's gun from his bag and shot him in the arm.

The uncle is recovering in the hospital. The rest of the family got out of the house, but Freeman barricaded herself inside. Negotiators talked to her for hours without success.

"Our SWAT team breached the house. They sent several cans of tear gas into the house. That had no effects," said Houston Police Department spokespreson Jodi Silva. "So at that point, the K-9 dog was sent in and he subdued the suspect."

Freeman was treated for dog bites and taken to jail. Her family says she has a history of mental illness.
