Federer ties Sampras Grand Slam mark

PARIS, France [SPORTS BLOG: Read the latest from the Eyewitness Sports team]

Federer is the French Open champ after blasting through a 6-1, 7-6, 6-4 win over Robin Soderling in the final. In doing so, the second-seeded Federer tied Pete Sampras' record of 14 major singles titles and became the sixth man to complete a career Grand Slam.

The French Open became his to lose after four-time defending champ Rafael Nadal (nah-DAHL') fell to Soderling in the fourth round last Sunday. The Swiss standout had lost to Nadal in each of the three previous men's finals at Roland Garros.

Federer says this may be his greatest victory ever and says it removes a lot of pressure from his shoulders.
