Man gets life in rape of a child case

McKINNEY, TX G.D. Samford, who pleaded guilty, was convicted of two counts of the charge Tuesday, as well as two counts of indecency with a child. Samford, of Frisco, received 20 years on each indecency count.

It was the first conviction in Collin County under the elevated charge, which the Legislature passed in 2007.

Samford's sentences will be served concurrently, without parole.

The victim, who was 2 years old at the time of the offenses, was his step-daughter. To be charged with super aggravated sexual abuse, the victim must be under age 6.
