The woman, driving a red Pontiac, died at the scene. The male driver of the pickup was taken to Southeast Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Identities of the victim have not been released.
A Pearland police officer was sitting at the light at Dixie Farm Road at Main and saw the woman speed past. He was going to pull her over but he witnessed the accident before he had the chance to put his lights on.
Police aren't sure why the woman was speeding or lost control. The wreck is under investigation.
Highway 35 has been closed to traffic in both directions. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
