Residents say they have noisy neighbor

THE WOODLANDS, TX The club opened a few weeks ago on Technology Forest Boulevard.

Neighbors in The Woodlands tell us their covenant calls for quiet enjoyment of their homes. But people on one street say a new noisy neighbor is making that impossible.

Pebble Hollow Court in The Woodlands is a quiet street lined with $300,000 homes. Well, it's quiet except for weekends.

"Generally, it's just screaming, and whistles blowing and music playing and at times, there are loudspeakers going," said resident Karen Eckhart.

The problem, neighbors say, is just a short walk from Eckhart's back yard -- a 26-foot high water slide, cabana and pool complex that opened in mid-May.

"Then came Memorial Day and it was a whole new adventure," said resident Cindy Light. "It felt like I was living behind Splashtown."

"Were you mad?" we asked.

"I was furious," answered Light.

It's part of the Villasport Athletic Club, which was in of itself a surprise. We went to the club for comment, but a man identifying himself as the general manager asked us to turn off the camera and wouldn't comment. Our calls to the corporate office in California weren't returned.

The neighbors say they'd been told a doctor's office would be built on the site instead. The Pebble Hollow Court neighbors say they want some kind of noise abatement, and they've requested it be put on the June 24 meeting of The Woodland Township board of directors, because if the weekends aren't bad enough...

"This is the last week of school for Conroe ISD," said Eckhart. "Next week, school will be out and they start summer camps and day care."

A few trees have been planted behind Eckhard's back yard. At this point, she says it blocks the sight of the new facility, but not the noise.
