Saint Monica's Catholic Church members want to raise $150,000 for a new food pantry building. They have raised about $8,000 so far, and will hold a gala on May 15 to raise more money. The church says it helps about 250 families each month, and also sees people walk in off the street looking for food baskets.

Glen Gonzalez said, "We see that there is a tremendous need. We're seeing it face up. We're seeing people lying on the floor, no beds, no furniture... And we're also seeing that their pantries are empty."

Local businessman Jim "Mattress Mac" McIngvale wrote a $5,000 check on the spot to help.
