Jordan is the first female to be displayed in the university's 125-year history. The civil rights leader served in the state senate, and the United States House. Jordan gave the key-note speech at the 1976 Democratic national convention.

The statue unveiling Friday is the end of a 7-year project, kicked off by a group of female students on campus.
