At about 3:15pm police got a call about a suspicious person with a gun at the Southlawn Palms apartments in the 3700 block of Southlawn near Scott. When they arrived, they say that person, believed to be a Hispanic male in his 20s, started firing at them. Three officers discharged their weapons, killing that man.

Eyewitness News spoke to a man who identified himself as a cousin of the shooting victim. He says the suspect does not live at this apartment complex, although some of the residents had reported seeing him around in the past. The man says his cousin called the police on Tuesday to report stolen rims on his car. It took more than an hour for police to arrive, and the man theorizes that may be why his cousin was frustrated with officers.

Houston police homicide detectives and investigators from the district attorney's office are on the scene. The investigation is underway. The man's identity has not been released.
