Seniors targeted in phone scam

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels has received numerous call that senior citizens in the area are being contacted by phone and by home visits concerning their opinion about their home delivered meals. However, the conversation escalates to the inquirer requesting personal information from the senior citizen.

"This reportedly includes the inquirer asking for Social Security numbers and Medicare numbers. The senior citizen is also offered senior services such as provider care and home making services," said Manuela Arroyos, chief executive officer, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels.

Arroyos added, "This is not Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. This group is misrepresenting themselves."

"Please know there are only two representatives from Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels who would visit senior citizens for official assessment purposes. These are Barbara Armstead and Cynthia Spadoni. Both of these Fort Bend Senior Meals on Wheels employees are qualified case manager, carry agency identification and have business cards representing this agency," Arroyos said.

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels does not request Social Security numbers, Medicare numbers, Medicaid numbers or any other personal information.

If any senior in the area receives any inquiries such as mentioned above, please do not release any personal information. Please contact Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels to report all incidents and please call your local police department to report the attempted scam.
