A Texan police suspected of killing his girlfriend and stuffing her body in the trunk of his car has been found dead in California. Deondre Smith, 39, was found Saturday in his sport utility vehicle in Los Angeles. Fingerprints confirmed his identity, and Midland police were notified Sunday.

Smith was on the run after the death of Sheeva Sharda Miller, 21, who was reported missing April 7.

Smith sent text messages to Miller's family last week saying she was "out of the way." The messages included where Smith's storage unit was and its access code.

Police found the woman's body in the trunk of a Cadillac in the storage unit. It appeared she had been strangled with a belt, officials said.
