Xavier students head for Galveston

More than three years after their campus was devastated by a hurricane, a group of Xavier University students are taking a break from studies in New Orleans to perform community service in hurricane-struck Galveston, Texas[SIGN UP: Get headlines and breaking news sent to you]

Galveston was hit hard last September by Hurricane Ike. About 50 Xavier students were scheduled to leave Thursday for "alternative spring break" activities there -- an effort coordinated with Catholic Charities.

The group returns to campus on Saturday.
