None of the five suspects spoke in court this morning. Marcus Jason, Joshua Rider, Joshua Ashford, Cedric Fears and Charles Merritt are charged with murder in the beating death of Kevin Powell, 18, at a Baytown apartment complex Sunday.

In court Thursday morning, prosecutors told the judge details of the beating death, saying the suspects are believed to have taken turns kicking, punching, and beating Powell with the butt of a gun and the lid of a barbecue pit.

The prosecutor also said Powell had head injuries that were so severe that medical aid would not have helped.

Authroities say the suspects believed Powell had broken the window of one of the suspects' cars. All five suspects, say the prosecutor, have confessed to the crime. The next step is to complete the investigation.

"We had 90 days before we're able to present the case to the grand jury," said prosecutor Katie Warren. "At that point, we'll have had all the witness statements and we'll have everything from the police agencies, the autopsy reports and everything and we'll present it to a grand jury."

The grand jury will decide whether or not to indict the teens. If there is a trial, it's not known at this time if they'll be tried together or separately.
