New HISD chief of police sworn in

The Houston Independent School District's new police chief was sworn in Monday morning and Chief Jimmie Dotson is getting right to work. [SIGN UP: Get headlines and breaking news sent to you]

Chief Dotson says it's important to go beyond school campuses and out into the neighborhoods in order to provide a safe and secure learning environment for both students and faculty.

Chief Dotson has many years of law enforcement experience. He served in the Houston Police Department for 23 years before becoming the chief of police in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1997.
