Districts make cuts due to lack of funds

Cash strapped school districts in the Houston area hope they are on the priority list when the new state legislative session starts in a week. [SIGN UP: Get headlines and breaking news sent to you]

Several area school districts have had to cut services, programs or reduce staff because of budget shortfalls and a jump in prices for materials. That's why many school administrators and teachers hope state leaders do something to boost school funding across the state.

"The current funding system is completely inadequate and broken," said Guy Sconza with Humble ISD. "We are facing severe financial challenges."

Right now, there is no indication on the amount of money schools may or may not get. The 2009 legislative session starts January 13th.
