The move will help the city of Galveston cut expenditures from its ailing budget. Out of 188 police officers and firefighters, only a small number did not want a pay cut. The expected cuts must be approved by the Galveston City Council.
Officials say a drop in property tax and permit revenue left them with no choice but to ask police and fire departments to take a pay cut.
