Houston shells out $500K to lobby lawmakers

The city of Houston is spending half a million dollars to lobby state lawmakers when the new legislative session starts next month. [SIGN UP: Get headlines and breaking news sent to you]

Records show Houston has assembled a lobbying team which includes a former cabinet secretary under President George H.W. Bush. Austin is spending $830,000, the most of any city or county in Texas.

Officials say the money is well spent because the legislature files hundreds of bills that affect local governments.
