Man in wheelchair killed in hit and run

Suffolk County police say Lauren Dean was driving in Coram on Sunday morning when she struck the motorized wheelchair from behind. They say she left the scene. Witnesses described the car they saw.

Police say Dean was found soon after a few miles away. The 24-year-old has been charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license. She's jailed until her Monday arraignment and can't be reached for comment.

A woman who answered the telephone at Dean's Ronkonkoma home hung up when asked about her.

The dead man's name hasn't been disclosed.
