Police had been looking for Patrice Davis, 20. On Thursday, while she was still a patient herself at Ben Taub Hospital, Davis left her hospital room, took her day-old baby girl from the ICU and just left.

Police issued an alert because the infant had tested positive for drugs and desperately needed medical care.

Davis' father convinced his daughter to turn herself in.

"I told her that anything can happen to the baby, you never know until they evaluate to see how the baby is doing and stuff," said the missing woman's father, Kenneth Mallard. "And for her, she needs to go to rehab or something in order to get her baby."

Mallard tells us the baby is doing well. She remains at the hospital. Davis has been charged with endangering a child.

Meantime, a spokesman for Ben Taub Hospital says they plan to take a look at their security measures to see if there is something they need to do better.
