HISD looks to cut bus routes to magnet schools

HISD is focusing on bus routes to magnet schools to help cut costs so it doesn't have to cut jobs later. [SIGN UP: Get headlines and breaking news sent to you]

Right now the district spends more than $16 million on that transportation, and spends more than a million dollars less each year on magnet programs. The biggest cost, the district says, comes from busing students more than ten miles away from their campus.

"We've got kids going all over the district and it's become a huge amount of money," said HISD spokesperson Norm Uhl.

HISD wants some public input. It's holding a series of meetings starting Thursday night at Westbury High School.
