Gubernatorial run for White or Hutchison?

HOUSTON The rumors have been circulating about Hutchison's run for the position for some time, but at a luncheon yesterday she said she has looked at the idea from all angles. She would not, however, say if she will run.

Houston Mayor Bill White also said at the same luncheon he is not ready to say anything about running for governor. However, he did say if the senator resigns, he may run for her seat.

Another Houston lawmaker is trying to climb the political ranks by becoming the next speaker of the Texas House. Democrat Scott Hochberg filed paperwork for the job. Four other Democrats and four Republicans want to take the job from Tom Craddick. Houstonians Sylvester Turner and Senfonia Thompson are also running for the speaker position.
