HOUSTON Around 8am Friday, a six-year-old boy was crossing McCulloch Circle at Hidalgo. The boy and his mother were in the pedestrian crosswalk when, according to a witness, a red Mustang stopped at the stop sign and then drove through the intersection. Both the child and his mother were struck and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
Houston school district officials say the child, whose identity has not been released, was a kindergarten student at St. George Place Elementary. Counselors are available at the school.
The driver of the Mustang provided a statement to officers. He said the sun was in his eyes and he did not see the child and female crossing the street. No charges have been filed at this time.
The investigation is continuing.
