Red light runners, registration on council agenda

HOUSTON The city may ask TxDOT to deny vehicle registration renewals to any driver who's caught by one of the city's 70 red-light cameras and does not pay the $75 ticket. The city estimates a third of red light runners haven't paid since September 2006, adding up to about $7 million in unpaid fines.

Right now, there is no penalty for not paying a red light ticket. If approved, the vehicle registration holds could start before the end of the year.
