Bar owners upset over extended curfew

HOUSTON ROAD TO RECOVERY: Breaking news on Ike | School closings | Person locator | Important phone numbers | Assistance from FEMA | Filing a claim | Latest power numbers

Some restaurants and bars that rely on late night business are pleading with city officials to change their minds. Many owners say the curfew is hurting business. They have to close down hours earlier than normal to keep their patrons from being cited for being out too late.

In fact, Houston police say so far, they've issued 951 citations and bar owners say enough is enough.

"Now it's just too much and it's very difficult to plan, very difficult to plan our lives around indefinitely. It would be really nice to have a hard number know what we're looking at," said bar owner Pete Mitchell.

The mayor's office says the businesses have a valid complaint but says the curfew is in place for the public's safety.
