Early yesterday, the power came on in one parts of Galveston Island. Residents cheered while children rushed to play video games, though most of the island remains dark.
In Jamaica Beach, residents were allowed to see their homes for the first time since Hurricane Ike. The storm surge damaged the ground level of many homes, but the main levels were left intact.
"I was very happy because when I left here Thursday, I didn't think I would have a house to come back to," said one homeowner we spoke with. "So the fact that I have four and a half feet of flood water makes me very happy."
Crews are working in both areas to get things in order.
