The list of HISD schools that are ready to open will continue to grow on a daily basis as CenterPoint restores power. Each HISD school will reopen only after power and AC have been restored and critical repairs made.

Schools will open in clusters every two days. The Houston ISD web portal will be updated at noon and 5:00 p.m. each day, with a list of which schools are opening next and when.

Bus transportation for schools set for reopening is expected to resume normal schedules. Be aware that some city sidewalks may be blocked with piles of debris and that everyone should use caution when navigating these obstacles while traveling to and from our schools.

HISD will begin enrolling children from other school districts heavily impacted by Hurricane Ike, such as Galveston ISD, at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center (4400 W. 18th, 77092) beginning Monday, September, 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Parents will also be able to enroll their students at HISD schools as they reopen. Use the School Zone Search Tool to determine which school your address is zoned to attend. Some schools may not have space available, so parents will be directed to the next nearest campus which has space for additional students.

HISD will also open a phone bank on Monday to answer questions. That hotline will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The number is 713-556-7755.

Note from HISD: In order to get as many schools open as soon and as safely as possible, a school's status may have been changed after the 5:00 p.m. deadline. This includes some schools with a status of opening that had to be changed to "pending" due to unforeseen circumstances -- the status for Almeda ES, Burbank ES, Burnet ES, Fleming MS, and Hartman MS have been changed from opening on Thursday to "pending." Also, programs housed within a campus (e.g., Reach Charter School at Furr High School) follow the status of the housing facility.
