Houston-area YMCA facilities that have power are opening their doors to the community for showers and battery charging. Even if you do not have a YMCA membership, you may go to any open YMCA and charge your cell phone and laptop or take a shower.
People must bring their own towels, shower shoes and toiletries to use showers; YMCA facilities are unable to provide those items. All children (15 years of age or younger) entering YMCA facilities must be accompanied by an adult, without exception.

Harris County employees return to work Monday
All postal service employees are asked to report to work as scheduled The United States Postal service is requesting that all employees report to work as scheduled. Resumption of mail delivery is an important element in the recovery of communities impacted by Hurricane Ike. Postal Service employees are exempt and essential, and as such only need their official Postal Service I.D. badge to gain entry to restricted areas for work purpose. For more information employees can call the USPS National Emergency Notification Hotline to determine if any special instructions have been issued. The toll-free USPS National Emergency Notification Hotline for U.S. Postal Service employees is: 1-888-363-7462. Additional information regarding postal operations within specific ZIP Code areas will be issued by the U.S. Postal Service as necessary. Customers can call the Postal Service's toll-free number 800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777) or the TTY number 877-TTY-2HLP (877-889-2457) for help with any postal questions they may have.

Continental Airlines to resume flights monday at Houston
HOUSTON, Sept. 14, 2008 – Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) is preparing to resume mainline jet flights Monday, Sept. 15, at its Houston hub at Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) following the carrier's suspension of operations Saturday and Sunday in Houston due to Hurricane Ike. The carrier plans to operate the vast majority of its schedule to and from IAH. The first flight is scheduled to arrive at 5:33 a.m. and the first departure is at 6:30 a.m. Continental Express and Continental Connection flights to and from the Houston hub will operate at a reduced level on Monday. Continental employees from other domestic locations will fly into Houston to assist their co-workers in resuming operations at the IAH hub. Normal operations will continue at the carrier's New York and Cleveland hubs. In a message earlier today to Continental's 44,000 employees, nearly 20,000 of them Houston-based, Larry Kellner, Continental's chairman and CEO said, "I know that my co-workers have gone through many sacrifices and hardships to try to return their personal lives to normalcy after Hurricane Ike, and they've helped each other and our customers in that effort. I want to thank them for all they've done. I also want to thank our customers, many of whom are sharing the same personal and professional challenges, for taking the time and effort to express their understanding and gratitude to our team. As always, make sure your personal safety and the safety of our co-workers and customers is your top priority." The Mayor's Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security has informed Continental that the curfew currently in effect for the city does not apply to customers or employees driving or being driven to and from IAH.
Airlines resume some flights Monday at Bush and Hobby
Airlines resume some flights Monday, September 15, at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport; Houston curfew does not apply to air travelers and airport workers
Starting Monday, Sept. 15, some airlines will resume flights into and out of Houston at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). Air travelers are advised to arrive at the airport for their flight at least two hours before the scheduled departure. While the City of Houston has issued a curfew, anyone who has a confirmed airline seat needs to be able to provide proof of travel plans if they are driving on Houston roads after 9:00 p.m. or before 6:00 a.m. as they are traveling to and from one of Houston's airports. Airport employees who drive to and from the airports will need to provide a photo ID if they are traveling during the curfew hours. Due to the fact that some airlines are resuming flights and others are waiting until Tuesday, Sept. 16, it is very important that customers confirm travel plans with their individual airline prior to going to the airport. Flooding still exists on some roads and recent rain since Hurricane Ike has caused additional flooding. Travelers are advised to allow extra time on their way to the airports to safely navigate the access roads. Air travelers may also check flight schedule changes with the Houston Airport System flight tracking information line at 281-230-7000 or www.fly2houston.com.
