Perry announced the suspension of the taxes Thursday night in a
statement.
The move came as nearly 1 million people along the Texas coast
were ordered to evacuate ahead of the storm, which was expected to
strike late Friday or early Saturday
He said the suspension is backdated to Sept. 8.
