Debose received the maximum penalty over the May incident involving a 13-year-old boy.
The defense, which sought a form of probation, plans to appeal the penalty. Debose attorney Don Davidson said his client believed the boy was older than 13 and the sex was consensual.
Prosecutor Joe Murphy said Debose met the teen via an Internet chat room.
Murphy described Debose as a man preying on boys and tricking them into thinking he was a woman.
