Obama asks thousands to help Gustav victims

DETROIT, MI Obama sent an e-mail to supporters on Monday saying that: "At times like this, it is our compassion and resilience that define who we are as a nation." He urged supporters to "give whatever you can afford, even $10, to make sure the American Red Cross has the resources to help those in the path of this storm."

Obama's campaign would not say how many people received the e-mail, but the Democratic nominee said Sunday that he thought he could rally "a couple of million" volunteers.
