Most of the cars were empty but some were carrying hazardous materials. Officials say no hazardous materials leaked. Saline that was being carried in one of the tankers did seep out.
"At this point there are no hazards that I can see to the residents. It's simply an inconvenience to them," said Tommy Anderson with the Santa Fe Fire Department. "Once they get these cars moved, we'll open things back up here."
Highway 6 has been shut down in the area. Cleanup could take days. No injuries have been reported.
