Tyson Gay has failed to make the Olympic 100-meter final, finishing fifth in the semifinals to squelch a gold-medal meeting with world record-holder Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell. Gay, the defending world champion, was outleaned by American teammate Darvis Patton at the finish line for the last spot in the final to be run later Saturday. It means he will not have a chance at an individual medal at the Beijing Olympics.

He didn't qualify for the 200, falling to the track and straining his left hamstring during qualifying at the U.S. Olympic trials last month.
