Man killed while trying to cross freeway

HOUSTON It happened just after midnight near Quitman. A female driver was traveling on the freeway when a pedestrian tried to run across the highway. Police say she couldn't avoid hitting him and the man suffered a severe head injury. He was killed instantly.

The driver wasn't injured but she was pretty shaken up. She is not expected to face any charges.

The southbound lanes were closed for a couple of hours.
