Suspected drunk driver sideswipes ambulance

HOUSTON It happened just after midnight on the Southwest Freeway going over Buffalo Speedway. Police say a man who sideswiped the ambulance was clearly intoxicated, and while they have yet to release what his blood alcohol content may have been, they say he was so intoxicated that he got sick.

The ambulance driver with the Houston Fire Department followed the man and every time he thought the driver was going to pull over, he sped off.

"It exited the freeway and tried to get away from the ambulance by going down some of the side streets," said Sgt. David Runyan with the Houston Police Department. "It came back on the freeway and finally pulled over."

Police say when they arrived, that man, who is in his 20s, became ill due to his level of intoxication. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The ambulance was not carrying any patients and no one was hurt.
