Sunday, July 27; registration at 9am
For those interested in becoming a Rockets Power Dancer, show up at open auditions on Sunday at Toyota Center. You might be on your way to becoming a member of the official dance team of the Houston Rockets.
If you're 18 years of age or older by July 27, a high school graduate, either a full time student or hold a full-time job, and live in the Houston area, you're eligible.
The Rockets Power Dancers are looking for energetic individuals who can perform a variety of advanced jazz, funk, and hip-hop routines. Rockets Power Dancers perform original pieces, attend special events, and make special guest appearances throughout the Houston area during the season.
Auditions will include two preliminary rounds; a short dance technique combination (Round 1) and a high energy dance routine (Round 2).
Finalists selected at the conclusion of Round 2 will advance to a training camp consisting of dance rehearsals, conditioning and training sessions, and one-on-one interviews.
Proper attire for auditions is a two piece (half-top and shorts) dance ensemble, tights or hose, and non-marking dance or tennis shoes. Participants should come prepared with performance ready hair and makeup.
Applicants must bring a valid Texas Driver's license, a non-returnable photograph (headshot or full length), dance resume and a copy of their registration form. Background checks will be conducted on all finalists.
Auditions for Little Dippers
Friday, July 25; registration at 11:30am
The Houston Rockets will hold open auditions for the 2008-09 LITTLE DIPPERS Dance team. The 30-member coed dance squad, which debuted in 2006, is a Rockets fan favorite. The team is looking for boys and girls ages 6 -14 to perform novelty, jazz and hip-hop dance routines.
The Little Dippers perform at the majority of weekend home games and a few scattered weekday games throughout the season. The dancers also take part in on-court contests, T-shirt tosses and Clutch skits during games.
The team uses a mix of talent - most dancers have backgrounds in studio dance (ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap), competitive cheerleading, and/or gymnastics while others are self taught dancers, breakers and pop and lockers. Practice is held once a week throughout the season on Friday evenings.
The Little Dippers are managed by Rockets Power Dancer Coach and Choreographer "Sweet Susie" Boudwin.
A parent/guardian must be present, even if applicant has already pre-registered. Children without a parent or guardian present at registration will not be permitted to audition.
Participants must bring a non-returnable photograph, wear comfortable clothing and non-marking shoes, and be prepared to learn a short, fast paced dance routine.
