Homeowner seriously beaten by intruder

HOUSTON Late last night, sheriff's deputies say a man broke into a home on Lambeth and Surles in northeast Harris County. The homeowner tried to stop the suspect, but was badly beaten.

"I know he was beaten, but is expected to survive," said Sgt. Robert Tonry with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "But a pretty painful beating."

The victim's wife arrived at that time and the suspect took off in the victim's truck. A sheriff's deputy had already been called to the scene and showed up just at the suspect was driving off. The suspect crashed on Aldine Mail Route following a chase and was taken to the hospital.

The homeowner is expected to survive.
