Reward offered in church hate crime case

HOUSTON Vandals started hitting All Saints Catholic Church in March. On three occasions, vandals defaced a statue in a grotto on the church grounds. The first time, they broke first the statue. On another occasion they turned it upside down, painted it black and left a message about worshipping statues.

"The person obviously misunderstands our practice as Catholics," said All Saints Catholic Church Pastor Adam McClosky. "We do not worship statues. We honor the person that the statue represents."

HPD's criminal intelligence division has classified the first two cases of vandalism as hate crimes. Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
