City gets 500th hybrid vehicle

The city of Houston today took delivery of its 500th hybrid vehicle. Mayor Bill White showed off the Toyota Prius in front of city hall. The city's hybrid fleet includes 334 Toyota Prius cars, 164 Ford Escape SUV's, and two Honda Insights. The city wants to have 1,500 hybrids by 2010.

Mayor White also announced that as of Tuesday, the city will get 25% of its total electricity load from Texas wind farms, mainly located in west Texas.
