Escaped trustee captured in Galveston

GALVESTON, TX Justin Lopez, 20, of Galveston was working outside in the jail's car wash area when he just walked away. He'd been in jail since June 20 when he turned himself in on outstanding warrants for theft.

About 3:30 this morning, authorities found Lopez at an apartment on Fort Crockett Boulevard in Galveston, staying with a friend. He was taken into custody without incident.

In addition to his original theft charges, Lopez now stands accused of felony escape. He remains confined at the Galveston County Jail.

It appears at this point, the friend he was staying with will not face charges. Investigators are still working to determine exactly how Lopez managed to flee.
